11 Aug The Clan Mackenzie International Gathering
This weekend the Siobhan Mackenzie team made the long journey up the A9 from Glasgow to the Highlands of Scotland. Born and raised in the Black Isle, Siobhan Mackenzie returned to her roots for a fashion show that was set to shock and awe.
Every five years, the small town of Strathpeffer plays host to hundreds of Mackenzie’s from around the world, for a week filled with Scottish Tradition and of course, ceilidhs. Held on the grounds of Castle Leod, it was the perfect backdrop for The Clan Mackenzie International Gathering 2015.
As a Mackenzie, Siobhan was thrilled to jump at the chance of a fashion show that would showcase new collections to a room of people that also wanted to celebrate their Clan and Scottish roots.
Bringing her luxury brand home to the Highlands with never seen before collections, it was certain to be a momentous event, and that it was. Using exclusive cloths and intricate techniques to create that distinctive luxurious ‘Siobhan Mackenzie’ style, guests were amazed and astonished to see a kilt in a way never seen before.
On the 6th August, models, Mackenzie’s, make-up artists and guests gathered at Strathpeffer Pavilion for a spectacular sold out catwalk show. Presenting original and brand new designs in the Mackenzie Tartan, Weathered Mackenzie Tartan, Greyfriars Tartan and 78th Highlanders Tartan. As well as featuring Siobhan’s new collection of Candy Kilts made from Real Leather and Genuine Harris Tweed- all lovingly made in Scotland.
In breaking the rules of tradition, audience members were astounded to see kilts so re-invented and innovative. With something as beautiful and distinctive as the kilt that has been undisturbed in its design for hundreds of years, Siobhan brings the kilt into 21st Century fashion with a breathtaking twist.
History was made on the 7th August at this years Clan Mackenzie International Gathering when there was a reconciliation between Clan Mackenzie and Clan MacDonald, ending 600 years of hostility. Siobhan was truely honoured to have the Cabarfeidh, Chief of Clan Mackenzie, wear a Siobhan Mackenzie kilt during the reconciliation.
The night ended with the perfect combination of a Siobhan Mackenzie Kilt swish, a dance of Strip the willow and the Feis Rois ceilidh band. There is no better way to embrace Scottish Tradition than dancing the night away to Scottish music in a Siobhan Mackenzie kilt.
We were thrilled to be asked to pose for a photo with the most gorgeous huskies. We think Siobhan Mackenzie Kilts and Huskies are the perfect match. Who are the better posers? We think the huskies!
If the Clan Mackenzie experience wasn’t exciting enough, the Siobhan Mackenzie team were lucky enough to be invited to hold a luxury showcase in the Venus Flytrap tent at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival. What better way to celebrate our new collections with new tartans than showcasing at The Tartan Heart Festival. Belladrum was the perfect end to a weekend packed full of tartan fun.
We would like to thank the Clan Mackenzie Society, David Broadfoot, Strathpeffer pavilion, Johnstons of Elgin, British Heart Foundation and all involved in putting these shows together. Its an experience we will never forget.
